Adoption Information *
Adoption fees for our dogs are $100, at this time, $75.00 for cats, although the cost of their care is normally much more than that for the average animal we take in, depending on the age and their condition. Fees Include:
• Heartworm test or Fel/ FIV testing,
• All vaccinations, including DHLPP, or FVRCP and rabies
• Flea/tick treatment & preventative
• Grooming
• Worming
• Spay/Neuter
• Health Check
Potential adopters are required to complete our placement application. All potential adopters are interviewed and a home visit is required. The home visit allows us to assure that we are placing our dogs in a safe secure environment. We prefer that all of our dogs and cats live as indoor animals.

Homes for Pets/Schertz Humane Society is an all-volunteer, non-profit rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of abused, abandoned, unwanted dogs and cat. The organization is funded entirely from donations and all the money collected is used solely to cover medical, feeding general care and other needs of these dogs and cats.
Our animals come to us from local shelters, or as strays and owner surrenders. To see current animals in our program check our website at www.homesforpets.org
Nearly all of our dogs and cats live in foster homes until adopted. During foster care we are able to evaluate the animal and try to find just the right home for them.
We hold adoptions two or three times a month at local pet stores. We are currently working with Petsmart in the Forum shopping center, and other locations as they arise! There are always special events and functions other than those as well. Please see current places and times on our website.

We can only save as many dogs and cats as we have foster space. We always need more foster homes. If you can help, please contact us, or if you can help in any other way, such as transportation, phone calls, donations, adoption day set up, etc. please let us know.

Take a moment to consider reading 'How to Love Your Dog', available at the above listed web site. . 'How To Love Your Dog' teaches kids about compassion, commitment, and responsibility. Topics include basic care and training, pet loss, pet overpopulation, laws of the community, safety around animals, and compassion toward old dogs. This is a terrific site for kids!!

Looking for a place to have your canine friend stay while you are away, either long or short term? Boarding at Pet Stop is the place to be! It is a truly unique facility! The pups have lots of interaction and do not just sit around in a cage all day. We recommend them to everyone we know! (210) 662-4821

Here is a link to their web site to find out more: Pet Stop Unique

Another possibility for your pet while you are gone is IN HOME pet sitting. While you are away, your pet can stay home and play! We have a really good animal loving group that we know of: Alamo Pet People 838-7770. All of their people work in animal rescue and spend a lot of their free time volunteering and helping homeless animals. So you know they are true animal lovers.
