ADOPTION APPLICATION

Part 1:  Name of animal or type of animal you would like to adopt:

Have you considered that adopting this pet may be a 15 to 18 year commitment? Please be prepared for that commitment, and seriously take this into account, before applying.

Animals have feelings too, and being given up, or abandoned once again, can cause a set back in their behavior and make it all the more difficult to find yet another home. We particularly find this when people adopt a cute puppy, only to return them as a grown dog. Our goal is to place all of our animals in FOREVER homes.

I am prepared for a life-long commitment to this animal.

Are you aware that pets have physical and emotional needs and suffer from fear, pain, sadness, loneliness, happiness, and joy, just like people do:

Are you aware that most behaviorial issues with animals can be corrected through proper training:

Do you understand that many humane society animals, having been abandoned by their previous owners, come with a lot of “baggage” and may have separation anxiety, may need to re-learn how to live in a home environment and to bond with your family and other pets?

Are you willing to have a home visit completed before an animal is placed in your home:

If this pet is too young to be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, by submitting this application online, you are agreeing to have this procedure done in cooperation with the Schertz Humane Society guidelines of producing no more litters.

Many animals we (and shelters) receive are from owners who have passed away. Unfortunately, all too often the owners made no provisions for the care of their pet. If something should happen to you, have you made arrangements for someone to take responsibility for this animal?

Please provide any additional information about yourself that would help us in matching you up with the perfect pet:

Part 8 - Submit Your Application

Please look over your answers above, then press the “Send” button below to email your information to HomesForPets.org.  Your application will be forwarded to the shelter organization caring for the animal you wish to adopt, or if you do not have a specific animal in mind that you want to adopt at this time, we will maintain your application on file for one year.

The Schertz Humane Society appreciates your time and effort in completing this application.  We are committed to “quality” adoptions where animals are placed only in loving, responsible, life-long homes.  Through this effort, we can actively work toward the prevention of further misplacement or abandonment of the animals available for adoption.

I agree to return the animal to the care of Homes for Pets/Schertz Humane Society if he/she has to be given up at anytime, while also providing the humane society a reasonable amount of time to find a suitable place for him/her to go.
